for Soprano, Bassoon, Violin, Double Bass and Percussion

00005_edited.jpg

Composed in the fall of 2021, "Ode in Somnium" (Latin for "dream") explores the fantastical dreamscape

inspired by the magnificent murals of Dunhuang, China.

Each visit to these caves ignites a wellspring of emotions, stirred by the murals' vibrant colors and mystical imagery, reflecting the rich ancient culture they depict.

The hazy atmosphere within the caves evokes a dreamlike state, further immersing the viewer in the artistic narrative.

Dunhuang holds a special place in my heart as my mother's hometown and the location of the renowned Mogao Caves, also known as the Thousand Buddha Grottoes. I would like to celebrate it in the best and purest musical language.

"Ode in Somnium" stands as a personal reflection on my experiences amidst these artistic wonders - an ode not only to the murals themselves but also to the ancient world they so vividly portray.

Ode in Somnium (Somnium

Dream awake overabundance. The dream just like soberly separates the world.
